Materials: 41 Hybrid Bicycles, participants, cycle repair workshops
The work Social Cycles is an alternative bicycle-sharing initiative at Falmouth University that provides 41 free hybrid bicycles to students, staff, and their associates. Distinguished by its deliberately informal approach, the project avoids conventional environmental messaging and bureaucratic structures. Instead, it operates through word-of-mouth and minimal rules, allowing participants complete freedom in using the bicycles. Alongside bicycle sharing, Social Cycles maintains a free cycle repair workshop.
Since its inception, Social Cycles has engaged 312 participants.
