TROMMELN IN DER NACHT (Drums in the Night)

Drums in the Night [2023]

Drums in the Night was devised by Andy Webster and Derek Tyman in collaboration with percussionists: Andrea Lesjak, Simon Kummer, Kordian Tetkov, Clemens Kerner & Mads Lynnerup and included readings of texts and additional percussion by many participants.

The performance drew its initial impetus from Brecht's play Drums in the Night, (first performed in Munich in 1922) and featured the reading of text works by over 50 artists presented together with a series of playlists of anti-war, anti-capitalist and idealist songs from 6 decades of popular music to which the drummers responded and improvised.

The performance took place in the evening, against a backdrop of anti-capitalist and anti-war posters by 12 international artists and was performed in five acts mirroring the structure of Brecht's original play.

The project was developed with the support of Peter Kees, for Arcadia #3, Kunstverein Ebersberg, Germany [2023].
